This has been a truly tragic past couple of days for hundreds of people who have lost their homes to the horrible wild fires sweeping across Central Texas. One family particularly close to my heart has endured tragedy, and lost everything. If you've followed my blog over the past couple of years you have heard me talk about and seen pictures of the precious little boys I nannied for. I met them soon after I moved to Austin, and they took me in as part of their family. Their house was truly a home away from home for me. I spent more time with them than I did with my own family being that they all live in Houston, and grew to love the boys like they were my own.
Anyway, they decided to take a little family trip to Dallas this weekend to spend a couple of days at a fun resort hotel before the summer came to an official end. They had no idea when they left their house (probably in a scramble to get everyone loaded) that it would be be last time they laid eyes on their beautiful home (newly redecorated from top to bottom), all their belongings, photos, mementos and sweet puppy. Saturday afternoon their entire neighborhood was forced to evacuate, gather what they could fit in their car and leave. Nobody had any idea where the fires were, what houses were in the danger zone, and what they would be returning to. This sweet family didn't even have the opportunity to rescue their dog.
Sunday afternoon they faced what they feared the most. Total and complete devastation of their home. It breaks my heart into a million pieces watching them try to make sense of this horrific event. Pray for their two boys because I am sure they can't quite grasp what is going on, why they can't go home, and have to live in a hotel. Pray for their parents that they can find a peace that surpasses all understand, and find the strength to pick of the pieces of their life and start all over from scratch.
I know this is only one of MANY stories. It's hard to understand God's plan sometimes.
Sweet family.
